From July onwards, Afvalzorg will start collecting and processing wastewater coming from the coating industry, specifically water-based coatings. The containing butyl-glycol will be used in a sustainable way in our leachate treatment plant.
During cleaning process of the machinery, wastewater is produced. This wastewater contains a high amount of butyl-glycol which we will use as feedstock for our bacteria in our biological leachate treatment plants.
Up until now, the wastewater has been treated as waste material. Afvalzorg already obtained a lot of experience with using carbon-rich waste products as feedstock in leachate treatment processes. This replaces the use of raw materials and is a perfect example of a sustainable solution for wastewater treatment and contributes to a more circular economy.
Afvalzorg has a strong focus on climate change mitigation and circular economy. Sustainable business practices have proven not only to be good for the environment but also led to many new business opportunities and innovations.
