This month Afvalzorg has started the construction of a new landfill cell at our landfill site “Wieringermeer” in The Netherlands.
The bottom liner consists out of several layers including a HDPE liner, bentonite, drainage sand including leachate drainage piping. The construction is now halfway and the new compartment will be ready to use in August 2020. With this new cell our landfill area expands with 5.4 ha to a total of 36 ha. In this new cell we will landfill low-organic waste streams such as asbestos, construction and demolition waste, and contaminated soil.
