The construction of the final top cover system at two hazardous wastes cells at our landfill site in Nauerna in The Netherlands is in full swing. These hazardous landfill cells will form an integrated part of the 60 hectare recreational park which is currently being constructed on top of the landfill.
68,000 m2 of HDPE liner including drainage mats and a topsoil layer are installed on top of the hazardous waste cells. The top cover system is also fitted with an electronic leak detection system, so that any leaks in the HDPE liner will be detected immediately and remotely. This allows for a quick repair in case the liner should for some reason contain a (small) leak. We have already successfully applied leak detection systems at several of our landfill sites. The construction works are expected to be completed in October this year.
