Already 11 years after the start of our CO2 Reduction Programme, Afvalzorg has reduced her emissions by 53% compared to 2005! Our ambition is to further reduce our CO2 footprint with at least 75% by 2030.
Our main emission is methane from landfill gas. We try to minimise these emission by installing landfill gas recovery systems at our landfills as soon as possible. Recovered gas is utilised for energy production where feasible. In recent years we have experienced a temporary increase in our CO2 emissions due to large amounts of organic waste streams coming to our landfill sites. We have managed to reverse this trend by investing heavily in optimising and expanding our landfill gas recovery systems. As a result we are once more on the right track to reach our emission reduction goals.
