On 15-16 October, Afvalzorg participated in Versos 2024, a landfill and sustainability congress held in Ibiza, Spain. Bringing together experts from across Spain, alongside international guests from the Netherlands and South Africa, the congress served as a platform to exchange insights and develop strategies for sustainable waste management.
Afvalzorg’s involvement emphasized its commitment to advancing landfill solutions that contribute to the circular economy by placing landfills as strategic resources within the waste management chain. Key discussions at the event highlighted the importance of reducing methane emissions and aligning with global sustainability targets, as well as exploring innovative landfill gas management techniques. Attendees also engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions to discuss evolving emission reduction practices and adapting landfill operations to meet stringent environmental standards. Other sessions explored the role of geotextiles and the latest developments in their application, focusing on preserving landfill integrity and minimizing environmental impact.
Practical solutions
Versos 2024 underscored the urgent need for practical landfill solutions that can keep pace with regulatory changes while positioning landfills as strategic contributors to waste management circularity. Afvalzorg believes that the shared expertise and collaborative efforts on display at Versos 2024 will strengthen the industry’s approach to creating environmentally-responsible landfills.
