When evaluating the potential landfill gas recovery, emissions and possible utilisation options of a landfill site, it is essential to begin the project with a landfill gas model. This model is a tool which calculates landfill gas (and methane) generation based on site-specific data, taking into account the effects of recovery and utilisation.
Afvalzorg can assist you in performing model calculations to come to either a landfill gas extraction system, determine your business case for energy production by landfill gas use or periodic emission reporting in order to comply with (local) guidelines. In order to assist you in a professional way, Afvalzorg has developed two landfill gas models based on IPCC standards and calculation methods. These models are suitable for individual landfills and easy to use. So far, the Afvalzorg landfill gas models are being used in 59 countries world-wide.
Afvalzorg Simple model
This landfill gas model is suitable for any municipal solid waste landfills around the world. It is a simple and user-friendly model for calculating gas generation, recovery and emissions, and comes with the most recent integrated Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) parameters and calculation methods.
Afvalzorg Multiphase model
The Afvalzorg Multiphase model allows for a more detailed calculation of landfill gas generation, recovery, methane oxidation and emissions. This model is especially suitable for landfill sites where a wide range of waste flows are deposited and a reliable waste register is kept by the site operator, indicating waste amounts and composition over time. Local emission readings support the modelling and can be used to adapt the model to suit different local situations. The model already includes standard parameters for a number of waste flows, and model parameters are pre-set for moderately wet climate conditions such as those prevalent in The Netherlands. The user can modify the parameters to suit local conditions, where necessary.
